The incident began around 8:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 18, in New Haven County in Milford when Milford Police notified Connecticut State Police of the two vehicles on I-95.

According to state police, a responding trooper located two BMWs on I-95 northbound in the area of Exit 44, weaving in and out of traffic and traveling at speeds of excess of 90 mph.

When troopers attempted to stop the cars, the blue BMW took off cutting in and out of the flow of traffic, maneuvering across multiple lanes, and narrowly avoiding collisions in doing so, state police said.

Due to the danger, troopers stopped the pursuit and contacted the owner of the car in Norwalk who told police they would have the driver, identified as Jake Palmer, age 20, of Norwalk, contact the state police.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Palmer turned himself in to state police and was charged with:

  • Engaging police in pursuit
  • Reckless driving
  • Racing on a limited-access highway
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Interfering with a police officer

Palmer was released on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
